Pilots
Water Pollution

Berlin’s small lakes are ecological hotspots at risk due to various climate and urban stressors. But most importantly, they suffer from lack of information on their state. Through this pilot, developed water quality and availability indicators combining IoT sensor data with satellite and citizen science data. A graphical user interface, Splashboard, improves accessibility for decision-making at a local level in reproducible manner.

Biodiversity

Habitat connectivity affects the distribution of species within ecosystems. It is a key biodiversity indicator and therefore a cornerstone in European restoration policies. AD4GD has improved the calculation of habitat connectivity indices in Catalonia using data coming from remote sensing maps, species occurrence observations and sensor data. The Bioconnect interface provides access to these indicators and facilitates the estimation of future scenarios, improving decision-making at the regional and local levels.

Air Quality

Poor urban air quality causes serious health issues across Europe. AD4GD has explored how low-cost IoT sensors can enhance accurate and localized air pollution forecasting while involving citizen communities. Following this strategy, more detailed local air quality insights can be provided to support informed health decisions and help to establish replicable models for urban air quality enhancement.
