Privacy Symposium Conference 2024
The Privacy Symposium conference aims to support international dialogue, cooperation, and knowledge sharing on data regulation, compliance, and innovative technologies. The conference brings together data protection experts and professionals, authorities, international organizations, and the research community to discuss the latest developments and perspectives related to data protection.
The AD4GD project will mark its presence at this international event in two sessions:
Privacy in Earth Observation
- Speakers: Cédric Crettaz (IoT Lab), Stayce Hoult (NASA), Ekaterina Kasyanova-Kühl (Privacy Symposium)
- Chair: Adrian Quesada (Mandat International)
- Time: 4:30 – 5:30 PM, Monday 10 Jun 2024
- Location: Ca’ Foscari University of Venice – Aula Mario Baratto
The evolution of Earth observation allows to collect more and more granular data. Satellites, drones, and other technologies are capturing increasingly detailed imagery of our planet, which raises new questions on how to preserve privacy and ensure data protection by design and by default. It also raises challenges in terms of data subject rights, such as the right to access and the right to be forgotten. This session will present some good practices and solutions to take advantage of Earth observation while preserving privacy and fundamental rights.
How do advancements in Earth observation technologies raise new privacy concerns? What are the good practices and privacy enhancing technologies to support privacy and personal data protection in Earth observation? What are the current norms, standards, and legal frameworks governing privacy in Earth observation activities?
Making Data Spaces Regulatory Compliant
- Speakers: Cécile Théard-Jallu (Internatinoal Bar Association), Denise Amram (Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna), Giudiita del Buono (Gaia-X), Ekaterina Kasyanova-Kühl (Privacy Symposium), Soririos Kanellopoulos (DG Environment).
- Chair: Vasiliki Tsiompanidou (Mandat International / ECCP)
- Time: 2:00 – 3:00 PM, Monday 10 Jun 2024
- Location: Ca’ Foscari University of Venice – Aula Mario Baratto
Digital transformation is heading towards growing data integrations in the form of large-scale data spaces. In line with the European data space strategy, this session will discuss the implications in terms of privacy and data protection, as well as present insights from European research projects, such as AD4GD and IDEA4RC. The panel will provide guidance on how to best protect and ensure compliance of future data spaces.
What are the key regulatory challenges and considerations that must be addressed when establishing data spaces, particularly in highly regulated sectors? How can the complex landscape of data protection be effectively navigated to ensure compliance? What role do emerging technologies play in enhancing regulatory compliance within data spaces?
